Patient Review: “[Dr. Avery] is one of the kindest medical doctors I have had the pleasure to treat with. He is also very competent, he listens, and he is very gentle. I am an artist and have been for 35 years. He is saving my vision.”
Alessandro Castellarin, M.D.
Dr. Castellarin is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has been the principal investigator for numerous national clinical trials and is rated among America’s Top Ophthalmologists.
Patient Review: “One day, I was driving home from work, and when I looked in my side view mirror, I couldn't see anything. A dark cloud had obscured my vision. I drove to my ophthalmologist, who immediately suggested California Retina in Oxnard. Dr. Castellarin ordered rush surgery in Santa Barbara for the next morning. Three hours of surgery reattached the torn and detached retina. It was a long recovery process, but I could easily have lost sight in that eye.”
Stephen Couvillion, M.D.
Dr. Couvillion has done extensive studies in the retina field. Results of his research have been published in the Archives of Ophthalmology, Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers & Imaging.
Patient Review: “Dr. Couvillon is an excellent specialist. He performed a procedure on my left eye. I have had no problems since. I am grateful for his expertise in this area. I highly recommend this specialist. Thank you.”
Dilsher Dhoot, M.D.
Dr. Dhoot has presented his research and lectured at national and international conferences. He has also published numerous book chapters and research articles in several journals. Dr. Dhoot currently serves as a section editor for the Retina Times and a peer reviewer for several journals. Additionally, he is actively involved in the education of vitreoretinal fellows in his role as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine, USC.
Patient Review: “Dr. Dhoot and his staff go above and beyond to give his patients the best care possible. I feel very fortunate to be a patient of Dr. Dhoot for many years, as he has taken excellent care of my retina problem since I have suffered from diabetic retinopathy.”
Daniel Learned, M.D.
Dr. Learned has been published in top retina journals and has trained amongst some of the best retinal surgeons in the world.
Patient Review: “Dr. Learned operated on my husband’s eye. He was thorough, explained everything precisely, and successfully operated. He takes the time to personally communicate the operation results and never seems rushed. Personable as well.”
Ma’an Nasir, M.D.
Dr. Nasir’s research has been reported in distinguished journals. He and his colleagues at California Retina Consultants published the first series of patients treated with Avastin for age-related macular degeneration and subsequent peer-reviewed articles for the use of Avastin for other retinal diseases. Additionally, Dr. Nasir is a representative and a past vice president of the California Academy of Ophthalmology as well as a member of S.E.E. International. He regularly trains ophthalmologists from developing countries.
Patient Review: “I first met Dr. Nasir almost 10 years ago when I had a serious eye emergency and my ophthalmologist referred me to him. He then told me (quote) "Dr. Nasir is one of the best and most impressive doctors I've ever met." Having now been a patient of Dr. Nasir's this long I can speak with authority when I say he truly is brilliant. Three months ago he performed an emergency surgery (a hole in the macular wall of my eye) and I'm completely healed — he's now saved my sight twice!”
Dante Pieramici, M.D.
Dr. Pieramici has published over 100 articles and 16 book chapters and has edited three books on retinal diseases. He lectures nationally and internationally on retinal diseases and ocular trauma. Additionally, Dr. Pieramici has helped in the development of new surgical techniques, including limited macular translocation and 25-gauge (small incision) vitrectomy surgery. Currently, he is involved in the development of new drug-delivery techniques for retinal vascular diseases. Dr. Pieramici is a member of S.E.E International and regularly trains international ophthalmologists from underserved areas.
Patient Review: “I have been a patient of Dr. Pieramici for several years. He is a person with great integrity and treats patients in an honest, kind, and compassionate manner. As a patient with a rare genetic eye disease, I have lost central vision in one eye and hope the same will not be the result in my other eye. I am fortunate to have a doctor of such high caliber as Dr. Pieramici advising, monitoring, and managing my eye care.”
Nathan Steinle, M.D.
Dr. Steinle serves on several global steering committees and is a principal investigator in a number of research trials including novel therapies for AMD and diabetes. He has published numerous book chapters and research articles.
