The Vitreous
The vitreous is the clear gel that fills the central cavity of the eye. You can think of it like the white that fills the inside of an egg. The vitreous is attached to the retina. There is a strong attachment to the front part of the retina, and it is called the vitreous base. It is also attached in the back part of the eye to the optic nerve, the macula and the large retinal blood vessels.
